Elite Martial Arts & Lewis' Taekwondo, was founded in 1994 by Russ Lewis.  Master Lewis is a 6th degree black belt with 20 years of teaching experience.  Today the academy is locally owned and family operated by Master Russ Lewis and his wife, 4th Degree Black Belt, Jennifer Lewis. 

Their passion for improving students physical fitness, mental discipline, and self-confidence is apparent in every class that is taught.  Master Lewis has been a positive influence in the lives of many.  Their ability to reach children and adults alike has earned Elite Martial Arts & Lewis' Taekwondo a reputation as the areas best martial arts studio.

Elite Martial Arts & Lewis' Taekwondo is also an official club in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union, est 1888) and a member of the UMAA (Universal Martial Arts Association).  Master Russ Lewis is a UMAA advisary board member along with seven 10th Degree Grandmasters as well as several 8th and 9th Degree Grandmasters throughout the world.  In addition to our exciting Taekwondo classes, students have the privilege of having Master and Grandmaster instructors visit our school monthly for special classes.

Master Russ Lewis has been teaching Taekwondo in Morehead City since 1992 and opened his own school in 1994.  He is a native of Carteret County and attended college at East Carolina University.  He received his Songahm Taekwondo Black Belt from Senior Master Paul Leitzke and his WTF Kukkiwon Black Belt from 9th Degree, Korean Grandmaster Richard Jung and 7th Degree Master Chris Robinson. 

Throughout the years, Master Lewis has trained with many high ranking members of the martial arts world including Taekwondo 10th Degree Eternal Grandmaster Haeng Ung Lee and Grandmaster Joe Lewis.  He was on the National Taekwondo Team eight times, won several NC state championships, several national titles and two Taekwondo World Championships for sparring & five Taekwondo World Championships in forms. 

These days, Master Lewis has taken a step back from competition to focus on teaching at Elite Martial Arts & Lewis' Taekwondo.  It has been his life-long dream to successfully own a full-time Taekwondo school that provides quality martial arts to the community from which he grew up in.

Mrs. Lewis is a native of New Bern, NC.  While in high school, she actively participated in wrestling and gymnastics.  After High School, she joined the Army National Guard and became an AH-64 Apache Crewchief.  While in the military she trained in both Army Self-Defense and in Taekwondo.  Mrs. Lewis attended college at Carteret Community College and at East Carolina University.  She met Mr. Lewis while attending college and they started training together in 2000.  After dating for 5 years, they got married in April 2005.  In March 2007 they had a son, Luke Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis is a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, Certified Instructor and she is the Program Manager of Elite Martial Arts & Lewis' Taekwondo.  She has been training in Tae Kwon Do for over 11 years.  She enjoys teaching Martial Arts and the Lil' Dragons Karate Program and Youth Taekwondo Programs are her specialities.  Mrs. Lewis also enjoys power lifting and cross-training in Judo.
